CONNECTING
COMMUNITIES
TO FORESTS
SFI is committed to diverse perspectives because we know that it enhances dialogue and brings true change and growth. We are committed to mutual trust and respect for the lived experiences and self-determination of the communities in which we live, work and serve and are grounded in our commitment to promote the value of sustainable forests and build meaningful relationships in the communities where we operate.
We have a new Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policy to help guide our commitment to creating space for all communities to fully and meaningfully participate in the journey towards a sustainable future. This journey includes tangible actions and a commitment to continuous improvement that embeds diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility within our organization and throughout our network.
At the core of our network are the SFI Implementation Committees that engage at the state, provincial, and regional levels to collaborate on training harvesting professionals, maintaining the integrity of the SFI standards, promoting responsible forestry, sharing knowledge with family landowners, and providing educational opportunities for youth and adults.
The new SFI standards include updates to Objective 8, Recognize and Respect Indigenous Peoples’ Rights, which promote respect for Indigenous Peoples’ rights, representative institutions, and traditional knowledge, and are aligned with the principles of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
